Guelph, ON, February 2, 2018 – Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis (GWWIC) was excited to receive a big cheque from JL’s Home Hardware Building Centre. The donation of $7,190.00 was presented to Sly Castaldi, Executive Director – GWWIC. The cheque presentation took place at JL’s Home Hardware flagship location, 575 Wellington Street West.

JL’s Home Hardware Building Centre partnered with International Fashion Designer and Colour Specialist, Simon Chang and Beauti-Tone Paint’s Creative Director, Bev Bell for the 3rd Annual Ladies Night 2017. Ladies were asked to bring a donation of purses, scarves, mitts, and full size personal care items to help fill the helping handbags with love. The event was attended by approximately 300 ladies and eight Guelph food service companies/chefs who offered up tasty samples of their work.

The “All in the Bag” Ladies Night fundraiser recently gained international recognition in the December issue of Hardware Retailing magazine. Hardware Retailing magazine is the hardware and home improvement industry's leading trade publication and is published by the North American Retail Hardware Association.

“GWWIC was overwhelmed when our cube van showed up stock full of purses and personal care items. Actually, I didn’t really know just how much we collected the night of the event until the next day. Guelph residents, the business community and our customers are so generous when supporting our charity fundraising events. We were also happy to see so many new faces raising their hands when Lisa Richards, morning show host for Magic 106.1, asked the audience if this was their first time coming to our Ladies’ Night event and into the store. From selling flamingos to hosting Simon Chang, we’re looking forward to plans for Ladies” Night 2018”

- Rick Lackovic, Marketing Manager, JL’s Home Hardware Building Centre

"What an amazing night for women in our community! Women supporting women – we’re so grateful to JL’s Home Hardware and Simon for this incredible partnership. We hope this continues to be an annual event in Guelph. The generous proceeds will contribute immensely to the programs and services we offer to those suffering from domestic and sexual violence.”

- Sly Castaldi, Executive Director, GWWIC
